Gisborne is a town approximately 55 kilometres north-west of Melbourne, Victoria. The town was named after Henry Fyshe Gisborne (1815–1841), the first Commissioner for Crown Lands of the Port Phillip District. Gisborne is part of the Shire of Macedon Ranges.
Traditionally, the area was set up for sheep farming and more recently, the area has developed a rich wine industry. Due to it’s handy proximity to Melbourne, it is a favourite destintion for daytrippers.
The Gisborne community sources its scheme water from local reserviours, which are frequently topped up by bore fields. Due to this delicate balance and variations in annual rainfall in the area, the community is often subject to water restrictions.
