The Australian Government’s HomeBuilder Program provides eligible owner-occupiers (including first home buyers) with a grant of $25,000 to build a new home or substantially renovate an existing home. HomeBuilder will assist the residential construction market by encouraging the commencement of new home builds and renovations.
If your Building Contract includes a Rainwater Tank for household supply, as a part of the renovation or new home build, this can be be included in your application.
You can apply for HomeBuilder when the relevant State or Territory Government that you live in, or plan to live in, signs the National Partnership Agreement with the Commonwealth Government.

Note: The contract must be signed between 4 June 2020 and 31 December 2020. Construction must commence within three months of the contract date.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA – APPLICANTS
Who can apply for HomeBuilder?
To access HomeBuilder, owner-occupier applicants must:
- be a natural person (not a company or trust);
- be aged 18 years or older on the contract date;
- be an Australian citizen at the time of application;
- be below one of the following two income caps:
$125,000 per annum for an individual applicant based on their 2018-19 or 2019-20 taxable
$200,000 per annum for a couple based on their combined 2018-19 or 2019-20 taxable income.
- enter into a contract from 4 June 2020 up to 31 December 2020 to:
Build a new home as a principal place of residence, where the property value (i.e. house and land) does not exceed $750,000.
Substantially renovate an existing home as a principal place of residence, where the renovation contract is greater than $150,000 and does not exceed $750,000, and where the value of the existing property (i.e. house and land, before renovation) does not exceed $1.5 million.
Purchase an off-the-plan / new home as a principal place of residence where the contract price does not exceed $750,000 and construction had not commenced prior to 4 June 2020.
